This album is the result of a creative experiment which took place in the Autumn of 2020.
Through lock down I spent much time over the edge of my local man-made environment in the isolated, quiet natural places.
For this experiment I aimed to develop songs to be recorded outside in these locations. In the dark on clear nights. Over the edge in my wilderness, in the liminal spaces only accessible by walking within my known landscape. These specific locations are ones I now know and have visited many times alone and with family. The songs I wrote aimed to capture my memory and connection to these specific locations and by recording in the dark I aimed to add a specific atmosphere to the sound and challenge for myself. Like the postman in ‘Il Postino’ gathering the collected sounds of his island I aimed to capture something of my specific landscape.
